Florence (Bergt) Schick is just like a Mountie, i.e., she always gets her man
(pc: person). With unwavering
determination she tracked down Tom Birkenhead by dialing every
Birkenhead in the phone book. When asked how she withstood the
strain, Florence said "I acquired a steady
hand and nerves of steel by watching 'Dialing for Dollars' on
television." Florence called 15 Birkenheads before she finally tracked down Tom's mother in
Hawaii. It seems that Brother Tom has tuned in, set aside the
rat race,
and is touring Europe in a mobile home. Life is tough! Grace (Ting) Griffin who's
traveling to Europe and Dave Sassoon who lives there
are going to try and meet up with him.

Remember Dr. Frederick Harris? And
well
you should! He isn't exactly an alumnus but he was the BIG BOSS.
Our former headmaster is now almost 90 years old. His daughter Judy (Harris)
Garbutt (1962) says that he is looking forward to the
100th reunion in Tokyo in 2002.

Rumors
are that Gerrie Wheeler is associated with a Zen Center in Toronto and
is now called Ariana Florence. We can probably all use a little
inner peace.

Dave Bergt (1960) did some detective
work and learned that Mr. Spooner was a retired faculty
member of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York and
that he died in May of 1998. Many of us remember Mr. Spooner as
a hard-nosed teacher, but most of us who attended his classes
also learned. See Spooner remembrance in Senior
Year Story.
