Commencement Exercises
All Set for June 16th

With the current school year drawing to a close, the seniors are found in the midst of a round of graduation activities, having begun their traditional events with the Senior Tea on June 4th.

This year’s tea was held at the International house at 4 p.m. Attending were each of the seniors, parents, faculty and members of the administration. As one of the last class events in which everyone participated, the tea was especially enjoyed by those who will remember it and their class for many years to come.

The Baccalaureate Service for the Seniors was held on June 11th, also at 4 p.m.   Clergymen from various faiths 


Thespians Stage
Modern Play

Only a little more than two months after their Shaw-Shakespearean Festival, the Speech and Drama Class, under the organization and direction of Miss Margaret Quinn, presented The Pleasure of His Company. The play was performed on the nights of May 25, 26 and 27 in the ASIJ auditorium.

Starring were John Velasco and Marilyn Mapes. Other members of the cast were Nina Sassoon, Roger Lehman, Buzz Tewes, Mike Steele, and Bill Van Arsdale.

directed portions of the service, with A.S.I.J. students providing a musical background. Senior Peter Notehelfer sang The Lord’s Prayer and a group of ASIJ students sang Gloria. All parents and relatives were invited to attend.

To round out the year’s activities, Commencement Exercises will be held on Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m. in the A.S.I.J. Gymnasium. Admittance will be by ticket only. The speaker for the evening will be Mr. Copeland of the U.S.I.S., and the president of the senior class, Stuart Bennett, will give a short talk. Also there will be short speeches by the valedictorian and salutatorian of the senior class. Dr. Harris will read the names of the graduates and the president of the school board will present the diplomas. Then to the closing strains of the music, the Seniors will march down A.S.I.J.’s corridors for their last official time, beginning a fitting closing to their first 12 years of formal education and this school year.
