THE NEWSPAPER OF THE AMERICAN SCHOOL IN JAPAN
Seattle, June 1997

1997 Reunion in Seattle

ALUMNI ARE SLEEPLESS
By Pam Walker-O'Neal

We didn't see Tom Hanks or Meg Ryan but it was definitely "Sleepless in Seattle" in June 1997, when eight members of the ASIJ Class of 1961, gleefully joined alumni of all classes, for the big 95th school celebration.

Excitement and smiles were hard to conceal, and hugs were plentiful, as reuniting and reminiscing (as much as 37 years past, for some) took place. Talk was non-stop between the women - Grace, Pam, Pat, Cassie, Florence and Tanya - and men, Stu and Frank, could barely get in a word. Patiently, spouses sat quietly among themselves. They occasionally brought food and drink, so that friendships could be rekindled without even the slightest of interruption. (Our deepest thanks to them!)

It was a weekend to remember. Let's create the "magic" again in October 2001!

[Editor's Note: "Gleefully" is a regional word only used in Ohio. Experts disagree on the exact meaning, but it is commonly associated with suffering spouses.]
