Ma-Stavonhagen, Mary

Mary & grandson

Senior memory:

"That Brenda!"... has connections... giggles... never a dull moment... always happy and cheerful... "got it in Hong Kong"... "Baka!"

Since then:

After graduating from ASIJ, I went on to study in Zurich, Switzerland. After returning to Tokyo, Helge and I were married. Helge was stationed in Tokyo with Lufthansa German Airlines at the time. We spent 1968/1969 in New Delhi, India before moving to Osaka, Japan. In 1974 we moved to London where our third son was born. Our first and second sons were born in Tokyo.

From 1977 until 1982 we were stationed in Africa and lived in Khartoum, Sudan. From there we went once again to Japan and spent eight years in Osaka, then moved to Tokyo to complete the full circle. In 1994 Hedge’s dream of working in China came true when Lufthansa sent him to Beijing, where he took early retirement at the end of 1997 and started his own company. We own property here and have lived here happily ever after...with lengthy sojourns in London, where we also have an apartment and where we like to visit David and Michael, our second and third sons. Thomas, the eldest, lives in Shanghai with his French wife and his son, Louis. All three sons are in the film and PR business. Helge and I will again spend time in New York this fall and will look for an apartment there in order to spend more time near my brother, John, and Wall Street.

I am now adviser to the president of China's largest auction house, The China Guardian Auction Co., as well as being honorary vice-chairman of the Manchu Culture Society and serving on the committee of the Beijing International Society.
