then:
Forty years in forty plus words-well, here we go. I graduated from Wellesley and immediately got immersed in computers. In 1965 we actually learned how to wire boards and then went on to work on the latest and best, which was an IBM with 8K of memory. When the company later bought a brand new update with 16K of memory it was a day to celebrate! Along came that phase of my life where my energy was centered on the family and then two lovely daughters. One phase during those years I grew almost all our vegetables, raised chickens and children, cured olives and even made wine from our own grapes (remember this is California). Since then my wonderful daughters have grown to become my best friends even though they tease mercilessly and increasingly so with time. Raising children has been an enormous challenge that I didn't feel equipped to handle. Thank goodness that they are finally almost on their own, - one graduated from Harvard and UC Berkeley School of Business while the other graduated from Brown University and is now struggling through her third year in medical school. Oh, it has been a most gratifying adventure.
As for the present... I'm still involved in computers and find myself typing this piece on a laptop with 256 Megs of memory. Imagine! I seem to be spending a great deal of time working so to balance the sedentary side of my life, I've started running. First it was running a 5K, (3.1 miles) which seemed like a rather formidable distance; lOK's were out of the question. Ah, but a year or two changed all that. Since December I've run four marathons and though I'm taking a break right now plan to start training again to run my third Boston Marathon in April. It's an addiction if you ask me; however I'm staying very healthy as a result.
Well this life's adventure over bumps and ridges, bruises and scrapes brings me to the third paragraph and the future. If I'm so lucky as to retire some day I hope to make a small change to this world in my own way. What's that dream? Well, let's look forward to sharing our views, dreams and laughs at reunion and beyond.
